PRINCIPAL’S NOTEFebruary’s theme is understanding ourselves and others, and being mindful of our choices. This month teaching and learning surrounding Black History Month, a month set aside to honor the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history, takes center stage. We look forward to starting every day with a quote from an African American leader related to our Student 360 focus and sharing daily facts about African American history during morning announcements. We’ll celebrate with music throughout the month, and each class will be doing research and focus on influential African Americans. Be sure to check the bulletin board at the school entry, which will be decorated in honor of Black History Month! In February we’ll also be exploring the theme of Kindness, with a whole week set aside to explore how we can be kind to one another. Kindness is always big focus at Sumac, and something that we share with our students in many ways throughout the year. Look for ambassadors who will be spreading kindness by passing out Valentines to students on Valentine’s Day. Kindness is contagious! VALIANT VOYAGERS ASSEMBLIESEach month two Valiant Voyagers who have demonstrated perseverance and grit are acknowledged during morning assembly from each class.
